The Tahoe and Suburban have identical trim lineups and are both offered in rear wheel and 4-wheel drive configurations. Standard in both SUVs is a 5.3L EcoTec V8 engine, producing 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft of torque with a highway fuel economy of 20 mpg. For those looking for more horsepower, a 6.2L EcoTec V8 is available on the upper-level trims, producing 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft of torque. A turbocharged diesel 3.0L Duramax 6-cylinder engine is also available for those looking for more torque and better fuel economy, producing 305 horsepower and 495 lb.-ft of torque while delivering a combined fuel economy of 24 mpg. All engines are paired with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission.

The base LS trim is available in both rear-wheel and 4-wheel drive exclusively paired with the 5.3L V8 engine. Standard features include tri-zone automatic climate control, automatic LED headlights, power windows, heated power side mirrors, front and rear park assist sensors, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, satellite radio capability, HD Surround Vision cameras, a 6-speaker sound system, a 17.7 inch touchscreen multimedia center, 18-inch alloy wheels, power adjusted front seats, key fob remote start, over-the-air updates, adaptive cruise control, 6 USB ports and seating for up to 8 people.
The LT is the first trim to offer a different engine configuration with the 3.0L turbocharged diesel engine being offered as an option, alongside the standard engine. It adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power liftgate, driver seat memory and a wireless device charger.
The RST trim is the first trim to offer the consumer the choice between all 3 engine options available among the Tahoe/Suburban lineup. It offers a sporty appearance package featuring unique black exterior styling cues, along with RST-specific seats and larger 22-inch alloy wheels with wheel locks for extra protection. It also adds LED fog lights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a garage door opener.
The popular off-road focused trim, the Z71 trim, includes improved capability and styling, while offering the consumer the choice between all 3 engine options. The more rugged looking fascia combines off-road aesthetics with off-road capability by improving the front approach angle. The Z71 features standard four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, Hill Descent Control, 20-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, a front skid plate, and tow hooks.
The Premier trim again features the choice between the 3 engine options while offering loads of meaningful upgrades including Magnetic Ride Control suspension, auto tilt-down side mirrors with an integrated turn signal, a heated powered steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, rear heated bucket seats, power-folding second and third-row seats, and a 10-speaker Bose surround sound system.
The High Country trim features the 6.2L V8 as the standard engine, while offering the 3.0L turbocharged diesel engine as its alternative. Other features include 22-inch alloy wheels, a head-up display and a rear camera mirror.
The Suburban offers a more spacious interior, leading those who are looking to fit more passengers routinely in the vehicle to choose it over the Tahoe. The second row can be specified with either a 60/40-split bench seat or with dual bucket seats on both the Tahoe and Suburban but again, the Suburban provides considerably easier entry to the third row, thanks to wider door openings.
Standard safety features across the Tahoe/Suburban lineup include 7 airbags, surround view cameras, front and rear parking sensors, active lane departure guidance, active blind-spot monitoring, forward and rear collision mitigation and automated parking assistance.
